Focus stacking, or Focus stacking, is an essential technique in macro photography of products, particularly suitable for jewelry such as bracelets, rings or cufflinks.
This method automatically combines several photos taken at different focusing distances to obtain a completely clear final image, from the foreground to the background. 🔍
With this tutorial, we guide you through the steps of performing focus stacking using the software Orbitvu Station combined with a Orbitvu 360° photo studio.
Get ready for crystal clear, razor-sharp jewelry visuals. ✨

Positioning and choice of the template
Start with clean your bracelet in order to avoid any imperfection.
📍 Position it correctly on the center point of the photo studio, using an invisible support kit (transparent double-sided adhesive) for an optimal result.
Once your bracelet is in place, choose the default shooting template in the software corresponding to the type of jewelry you are capturing (simple, precious or complex bracelet) or create your own template.

Light and camera settings
⚙️ Adjust light and camera settings in the station software Orbitvu in order to capture your bracelet in an optimal way. To avoid unwanted reflections, be sure to limit the ambient light.
Here are the settings we can recommend:
🔍 Use a macro lens to capture fine details.
📷 Opt for a wide aperture (f/2.8 to f/4) in order to obtain a shallow depth of field.
✔ Set the value ISO between 100 and 200 max to reduce image noise.
⚖️ Set the white balance depending on the lighting in your environment.
💡 Finally, adjust theThe lighting of the studio to your liking and adapt it to the surface of the bracelet (matt or glossy).

Using Superfocus (Wizard)
Click on the assistant Superfocus (wizard) from the software interface Orbitvu Station.💻
This assistant will guide automatically the different stages of stacking by suggesting the ideal parameters for focus stacking.

1st stacking stage - focus on the front area
🎬Start the sequence by placing the first focus on the Front area of the bracelet, that is to say the foreground.
This makes it possible to capture all precise details of the areas closest to the objective.

2nd stacking stage - focus on the back area
Move the focus gradually to rear part of the bracelet.
🔍 Zoom can be used here to ensure that fine details, like carvings or stones, are captured accurately.

3rd stage of stacking - the size of the steps between the focuses
Set the size of the steps (or increments) between shots.
One smallness Of step is Recommended for bracelets that are complex or have fine details. This ensures that all areas of the object are perfectly clear.

4th stage of stacking - number of steps for focusing
Determine the number of steps to complete for full focus stacking. The number of steps required for focus stacking Depends on the opening of your objective and the complexity of the object.
The larger the aperture, the shallower the depth of field, and the more you'll need intermediate photos.

Image editing and retouching
Once the images are compiled, you can move on to editing. 🎨
The software offers several options, such asadjustment of colors, brightness, contrast, fine details, as well as numerous other improvements to refine the image and achieve the desired result.
Ensure that the final result Remain faithful to your jewelry.

Exporting images
Once the editing is complete, select the export format (s) according to the intended use, such as JPEG, TIFF, or PNG if you want to keep a high image quality and the possibility of transparency.
You can also create a Template for these settings to save time for future exports. 📂
